Lita Grey

It's pretty ironic that in the dream sequence, there's a title card that reads, "The trouble begins." with the then 12 or 13-year old Lita Grey is "vamping" Chaplin. She was pregnant by and wedded to Chaplin at the age of 16. She also provided the name of that well-known book and movie about an underaged girl, "Lolita".

This is only claimed by Joyce Milton, but a rather interesting piece of trivia, if true.

I was unaware that Lolita was based on Lita Grey

If you're not taking any steps forward, you're not moving at all.

Probably not based on, but inspired by (if true).

The affair was all over the papers, at the time, so it struck the collective unconscious. But the context of the two stories (one true, on invented)is very different, so it could not have been "based on".

That scene makes me incredibly uncomfortable. I could tell she was underage in that scene but didn't realize just how young.

A STATEMENT IS IRRELEVANT UNLESS IT IS WRITTEN IN CAPS LOCK
