Poss Spoilers -- plot line questions..

Poss Spoilers: marry your own cousin ?? ewwwww.... i know, the uncle knows she's not really his daughter, but the young-uns don't know. i wonder if this was explained better in the book... and would the uncle really keep all the letters he had stopped from being mailed? and the dungeon scene is just silly. Some film-quality issues, but not bad for a silent movie from 1921. I don't usually have the patience to watch silents, but the lighting, the storyline, and the continuity are stronger than in most old silents.

In the 19th century, when the story originally took place, marrying a cousin wasn't as taboo as all that.

You would be surprised by the amout of movies, plays, books and even songs that pay no mind to 'kissing cousins'.

Just saw this on TCM and thought it was great. That Valentino was one gorgeous guy. I wondered about the cousin marriage too, but remembered that Louisa May Alcott had a story about cousins who married. Can't remember the title.
