Better than the Garbo version!

Am i the only one out there that considers this 1921 version superior to the 30's version? I found this movie hypnotic and the romance was more tragic here. Plus R. Valentino gives such a great performance, which might have something to do with his real life relationship with his co star..his love and devotion for her seemed very authentic. In the 1936 version they just seem like actors..it doesn't feel real for a second.

Way more interesting, that's for sure. I watched it past Friday night for the first time, despite I had the DVD for quite a bit now. When I purchased it, nearly 10 years ago, I wasn't much appreciative of silent movies, but now I'm so glad that it was included as an extra on the 1936 version DVD.

Nazimova was superb. Of course many will consider her acting "dated" and "over the top", but to me she was truly intense and fascinating to watch. Aside from this, I've only seen her in "Salome" (and a couple of talkies in which she played supporting roles), but I instantly became a huge fan.

I searched out this version of "Camille" because I'm a Rudy Valentino fan, (I believe he was married to Nazimova) and they were both excellent in this. I also love the strange art-deco sets they used. I find silent films to have a great haunting and dreamlike quality to them, and this is one of the better films. Like your IMdB name too; I also like Bette Davis, "Of Human Bondage" being my favorite film of hers. I will never forget her in that waitress uniform!
