BAAAAAD Acting!
Whoa -- I thought Wallace Beery was the worst over-actor in Hollywood, but he can't hold a candle to his brother Noah!
His Sergeant Gonzalez would've been an embarrassment in a grade-school pageant...

Ummm, this film IS a comedy/drama, and Beery's character is clearly meant to be an oaf. Not that Beery was a great actor, but he's perfect as the comic foil for Zorro to kick around.
shareIf something, I thought Robert McKim's acting as Captain Ramon was a tad ludicrous, as the character is rather sinister in the novel. McKim played him like Stromboli.
I think Beery was fun. A few years later, he interestingly played the head villain in the TV serial "Zorro Rides Again". And I have to take part with the OP's statement of his brother Wallace, of course.
