Christian slaves in Babylon

Babylon as a city was, for the most part, deserted and forgotten about 140 years before the time of Christ's supposed existence. It was more or less vacated about 275 BC when the inhabitants were moved to Seleucia after the death of Alexander the Great.

The ruins of Babylon were heavily damaged by US Marines during and after the US invasion of Iraq from driving heavy machinery over 2600 year old brick pavement, flattening areas for helipads, and caused substantial damage to the famed Ishtar Gate by soldiers and Marines trying to remove bricks damaging many of the molded figures around the gate.
