Mary had some serious skills.

With limited resources, she was apparently able to create highly effective eyeshadow and mascara. Naturally rich or not, she could have gotten even more wealth if she had begun her own business after returning home, selling all natural make-up.

While I'm on the subject, whoever had the biggest part in the making of everyone's clothing while they were stranded has some potential for success in the clothing design.

These are some skilled people.

Perhaps those skills were written down and learned on Gilligan's Island.

LOL. What really confused me about Mary was the fact that, in the intertitles, when each character is introduced to us, she's described as a relatively sensible girl ("a hand not only to be manicured, a heart not to beat only, but to love; a head not only for pretty hair, but to think", or something of that sort), but once she's awake we soon realize she's just another spoiled, high-society girl worrying about her bath and talking to her best friend about marriages should be "kind to kind".

Those were the lessons she would eventually learn because of the upcoming island trip. Altough these lessons would also be forgotten pretty quickly as well.. :D
