Ripped off The nightmare before Christmas according to some cretin!

At university some years ago, some vacuous blonde harpy claimed this movie ripped off Tim Burton's aforementioned movie!

reply

Well, when they are so endearingly wrong you just have to love them :)

"The yelling will cease and the killing will commence!"

reply

Probably the same person who said that The Wolfman ripped off Twilight

I am vengeance. I am the night. I AM BATMAN!!
I'm the best at what I do

reply

How do you rip off a film made in 1993 for a film in 1919. It would be like saying a movie now was ripped off one made in 2084!

reply

Let's reverse it then. Did Burton rip off this?

reply

No, but I can see how stylistically some of this is similar to TNBC.

Its the sad truth that people just aren't bright at all. History began with their birth, and anything that came before that is not important nor interesting. There are far too many people like this.

reply

That being said, Burton borrows heavily from Dr. Galigari settings, e.g. here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fxQcBKUPm8o

"You paid for parking? For me?"

reply

Burton's inspired by German expressionism in general, sure. I wouldn't call that "ripping off" though. (and of course, the original statement is just hilariously wrong XD Unless she knows something about time travel that we don't). If you want to see sets that look just like Caligari, check the opening of the Forbidden Zone.

I love Vincent and also Dr Caligari.
It had never occured to me before to compare the imagery but now you've mentioned it, some of it is incredibly similar.
I suspect it's merely a contributory influence rather than suggesting some sort of nefarious plagiarism. After all, no one can lay claim to inventing swirly claustrophibic unsettling perspective-distorting creepiness, nor the gothic and the wierd, can they?

Ooo! I suddenly have the urge for doing some home redecoration...

I'm assuming the large-breasted blonde that you refer to (did you say she had large breasts... or did I imagine that) is referring to the Caligari remake, as I believe even dizzy blondes have grasped the concept of time.

The only thing dumber than her comment is your mentioning her hair color and using the word 'harpy.' Cuz those descriptions SURELY get across your main point of calling her dumb, as opposed to your secondary point of calling her a woman.

Welcome to her club!

well, i think a trip to the moon is a total ripoff of 2001: a space odyssey.

reply

Rob Zombie did barrow heavily from this movie to do his video "Living Dead Girl." Same stylized look... Even filmed in B&W...

Trust me,

My, you're nosey, aren't you?

The same way some idiot kids online said that Black Sabbath was copying Black Veil Brides.

OR

The kid who said that Grease copied One Direction.

Or

The person who tried to say Dale Frances Bozzio (lead singer of Missing Persons) copied Lady Gaga.

I could go on and on, but I think you get the point.

Ignorance is bliss, I guess?
