That Poor Horse..............

There are currently no messages about this excellent film & so I am most probably not expecting a reply for a long time but here goes anyway!
That poor horse pulling the sleigh in the 37th minute of the film that crashed through the ice does anybody know if the poor creature survived?

I tought the exact same thing, the poor horse must've been sacrificed in behalf of the movie making... kkk... It doesn't change a lot by now, as almost everyone involved in the production should be as dead as the horse or pretty near it...

It was a shocking moment, stayed with me for ages after seeing it. Sadly there weren't the protection for humans or animals in movies at that time in much of the world's film industries at that time, thankfully times have changed.

Thank you for this post. I have been enjoying the film, and precisely in the 37th minute I had to stop and rewatch the scene to see if I was really seeing what I was seeing. You can see that they dug a rectangular hole out of the ice, covered up one end as much as possible with ice debris, and then forced a harnessed horse to run straight in. I cannot see how the horse didn't drown (and even if by some miracle they managed to pull it out, it's still extremely abusive).

Adults can volunteer to suffer for forms of art, but children and animals do not. It greatly mars my sense of any film when this sort of thing is included, and yes, I do hold the filmmakers accountable, as basic concern for animal welfare is not a new invention. Fortunately, laws about this have gotten better in most countries (sadly, not in all).
