Why (and where) Houdini filmed a scene at a particular Hollywood alley

This post shows how Houdini filmed at the Famous Players - Lasky Studios backlot at Selma and Vine, and why he filmed a scene at a nearby Hollywood Alley on Cahuenga just south of Hollywood Blvd. Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, and Harold Lloyd would all later shoot scenes from important movies at this alley, but Houdini was first.
