Racism?

I was wondering if anybody found that this was supposed to be racial humor, or just an accurate depiction of how whites behaved in the west? Most user reviews are saying that the scene involving the black man being shot to dance is racist..I'm just wondering if everybody feels the same way. Perhaps Buster & Fatty don't actually support racism, but since it's the west, they added the scene. It was like this in the 19th century after all. Yes, Arbuckle's & Keaton's characters do join in on the shooting of the man, but it was just their characters..

I would just like to know how everybody felt about the gag, and possibly even some further exploration into the racial views of Roscoe Arbuckle, and even Buster Keaton, in case there are some I don't know.. were the 2 usually fans of racism in films, and would this be one of them?

Thank you.
