I think most people think of DeMille's movies as having people get what they deserve by their actions - the good get rewarded, the bad gets trouble, and the indifferent go on doing whatever it was they were doing. A woman gets away with murder, a scheming man gets to marry the wealthy divorcee, and the man who covers up that murder gets the woman he loves.
