Matti Bye's music scores are usually high quality. I wonder if he managed to improve Erotikon. The score on the American DVD practically killed that film. I have never heard a comedy score by Matti Bye, so I'm interested in hearing that.
To me, Victor Sjöström overacts a bit in Terje Vigen. That's why I don't think it's his best, but it is still a beautiful and impressive film. What did the people who gave it a 1 expect of it?
I don't know, but I am reminded of one person who made a comment on The Outlaw and His Wife, which proved that he expected this 1918 film to have the same dramatic structure and ideals of feminine beauty as a modern film. These films are nearly a century old, and you have got to take that into account when you view them.
I think they have aged well, in spite of some dated acting. They have a unique mood, and visually they are amazing. But one must be prepared for that they are different.
Then again, I guess some people just didn't like it.
