Finally

What a treat to finally see this film!

Always the wedding officiant, never the bride.

Yes it was! The Victorian look of this film was so endearing as was Mary Pickford's wonderful acting.

teaandoranges; We too appreciated this film. Nothing makes a work-out go faster then a good movie and this one was. Hard to believe but Ms. Pickford wanted to destroy all copies of her films. Feeling with the new sound technologies and acting techniques they were totally obsolete without redeeming values. Fortunately her step-son Douglas Fairbanks Jr. talked her out of it. How wrong she was.

Pickford was great. And it gets a little eccentric near the end.

I just caught it for the first time on TCM as well and wow, was it an enchanting ride, though quite bleak at times due to the subject matter. What a revelation Mary Pickford is despite the lack of dialogue. Thoroughly enjoyed this film!

I saw this last night with orchestral accompaniment written by Philip Carli. It was great! The rirend I saw it with agrees that the extended dream sequence was much like Dorothy's trip in Oz. The setup for the scene when Gwen recovers looks almost exactly like the scene in WOO when Dorothy wakes up with family and friends around her. Does anybody else see the similarities and wonder if this 1917 film influenced the direction of WOO?
