An interesting perspective . . .

I saw the rink the other night and I heard this comment afterward: "It's just a bunch of people falling down!"

The rink is beautiful...
In the way "The Party" w/ Sellers is beautiful. Poetry in motion... w/out silly sound effects or "funny banter".

Yes, it's a bunch of people falling down BUT with grace and humour like only Chaplin could have done it.

BTW Who would guess that Charlie was such a good skater?

One of my favorite Chaplin shorts

just hilarious -

regarding chaplin's skating ability -

its clear the guy was a world-class athlete

the bits of him windmilling backwards and forwards had me gasping...

no-one could fall like cc. he and keaton were the schitz.

I'd say you have to put Harold Lloyd in there too.

Buster Keaton too, I heard someone on here say the other day they saw a picture with his shirt off and he had a six pack.

I think the thing with Charlie Chaplin, he was a the sort of guy if he put his mind to it he could learn any sort of skill. The guy was even though he didn't like being called it a genius.

haha true

One of my friends used to dismiss all of silent comedy that way: it's just falling down. What can you say?

With people like that you can't say anything - as my dad said, "like trying to talk horse sense to a jackass". ;-)
