Still effective

A film made 100 years ago! Did anyone then dream that in 100 years someone would still be watching their work and still finding it not only interesting but emotionally effective?

I was so torn up for the little daughter. Intentional or not, the scene where her mother puts her to bed, and then draws the window curtain, shutting out the sun, symbolized for me the end of the child's innocence as she would a day later find out what a wreck her beloved father had become.

Too bad so many folks today cannot stand silent films or even those in black and white! They are missing so much.

I just picked it up today at the library. I have heard about Theda for years. Silent films are one of my fave genres. I agree, I bet the stars of yesteryear never dreamed a century later, their work would still be enjoyed.

It's a great film, and makes me wish more of Bara's work survived.

Ilooked up her filmography on Wiki and found out maybe this one and another one ate the only two that survived, that is sad. I imagine the child actress was still alive in the 80's or 90's. I wonder what it was like to work with Theda.
