Uncle's Mansion

That was a huge mansion (at least for the outdoors shot). Is it still standing?

Watching it right now on TCM....wondered the same thing.
I am enjoying all the 1914 scenery in it.

A film scholar named John Bengston has published a terrific book about Chaplin’s film locations called Silent Traces. According to Mr. Bengston, the mansion used in Tillie’s Punctured Romance was owned by a physician named Dr. A. G. R. Schloesser, who made a fortune in mining and real estate investments. It was called “Castle San Souci,” and was located in Hollywood at 1901 Argyle, in the foothills on the site of a former lemon grove. Sadly, the mansion was demolished long ago.

WoW! Thanks for all that information! That will keep me busy researching for hours. I often am more interested in the structures of old movies than the story. lol. I love old homes and structures, especially in the Los Angeles area. Thanks again for posting!
