It's a decent comedy short of the period. You can see some glimpses of Chaplin's genius, but the other actors aren't that great. Possibly the best bit however wasn't Chaplin's - it was his rival who was taking a picture of the man in the wrecked car who was more concerned about getting the photo than seeing if the guy was ok. The ending was weak - they could have shown the two coming towards the camera on the street car's cow catcher.

Does it really though? It feels very haphazard, and relies far too much on coincidence. Though Chaplin went on to do great things, his debut was unremarkable.
