Technically NOT Chaplin's first appearance as the Tramp.

This is the first short released to feature the Tramp, but the one where the character was actually born (in a spur-of-the-moment before filming) was "Mabel's Strange Predicament" (filmed right before "Races"). Though this one is funny, it's interesting to watch him testing the waters in his first outing as the Tramp in "Mabel's Strange Predicament".

So "Mabel's Strange Predicament" was the earliest shot featuring "The Tramp", but this one (KARAV) was actually the 1st short released theatrically with Charlie in his "Tramp" outfit, right?

Interesting, each day we can learn something new.

IMO since "Kid Auto Races at Venice" was the 1st appereance of "The Tramp", this short still should be considered his "official" born date, regardless if "Mabel's" was shot a bit earlier.

Thanx for the info.
