Very true. The sets, the clothing, the hairstyles, the mannerisms, all evoke another age. I imagine this could have been pretty unsettling to World War I audiences with the gender reversal, cross-dressing, same sex kissing, and a black servant (in blackface) beating up a white man. And most of all it holds up well for a film of its age. A real groundbreaker and a foreshadow of what was to come.
