The Egyptians

It's interesting how the Egyptians were portrayed in this film. In keeping up with the (then) modern views that anyone of significance should be white, the primary Egyptian characters are Caucasian, the secondary Egyptian characters are white actors darkened by makeup to more resemble their historical counterparts, and the tertiary Egyptian characters are black. It's a rather interesting (racial) hierarchy. I could condemn this, but we already know how deplorable the views of the past are, so there's no point in beating a dead horse. The white Cleopatra was of no surprise, but I was surprised at how the filmmakers took into account the darker skin of the rest of the Egyptians and how they were played by white or black actors depending on their status.

I could be mistaken, but I read just recently that Cleopatra had fair complexion for her family line was from Macedonia, and that would have made her and her family Greek.
