A great movie worth seeing

Especially considering that it was made in 1912. TCM is good at showing this fairly fairly often so keep a watch out for it again on your tv guide. Helen Gardner was a talented beautiful actress and also evidently a smart business woman.

I highly disagree. This was a first class stinker. Historical inaccuracies abound everywhere. Octavia at Actium with Antony? Not even! Pompey still alive and being captured by Antony long after the Egyptians had killed him just before Julius Ceasar's arrival in Egypt, and much, much, more. If this is based on Shakespere, then the Bard really messed things up to. This movie is a curiosity and nothing more, and can hardly be taken seriously as a historically based telling of the romance between Antony and Cleopatra.

That's a different Pompey.

I did not care for this version at all. Aside from historical inaccuracies the modern soundtrack was, for the most part hideous! I find it distracting when there are any type of vocals included in silent movies. The music, in my opinion is also a primary character along with the actors on the screen. It's the music that helps direct and guide our emotions as we watch the expressions that play out before us. For example, when all of a sudden you hear dogs barking in one scene, immediately you're slammed out of the story and begin wondering where the dogs are and what does it mean? In one scene where it happened there was no reason for it whatsoever. Another example of this was a man, almost like a carnival barker yelling in the background. Very confusing to say the least. It's a shame the music was so distracting, the acting was pretty good. I wonder what the original score was like.

I liked the movie as a curiosity, but the sound track was awful. I muted the sound to not have to listen to that ridiculously inappropriate music that didn't belong in this movie.
