NOT the world's first feature film

Despite the claim of the guy in the user comments section this is not the world's first feature film. The world's first was the 1899 movie of the Jeffries Sharkey boxing contest. This is the world's first FICTIONAL feature film, ie. the first time a story ran for so long as opposed to a documentary.

You have got to be joking mate.
Filming a boxing match from start to finish is not a feature film.
The Story Of The Kelly Gang was a scripted film, with actors playing the various parts, that ran for just over an hour.

I know Americans love to claim that they are first at everything but not this time I'm afraid.
Good try though.

No joke, the term feature film relates just to length. Why is a documentary not a feature film? The Academy give an Oscar for best documentary feature.

The Story of the Kelly Gang is the first dramatic feature film, but not the first feature film.

As to your implication that I'm American, I'm not.

There's apparently an even earlier one, The Corbett-Fitzsimmons Fight, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Corbett-Fitzsimmons_Fight.

Why not just be satisfied with saying that the Story of the Kelly Gang is the first dramatic feature film? Still a hell of an achievement.

Sounds to me that people were watching a replay of a fight. And I'm American. That's not a documentary, dude.

What is a documentary but a replay of stuff? Here is the definition from Wikipedia. The Corbett Fitzsimmons match fits that description like a glove. Modern documentaries tend to have ridiculous talking heads, but that's not an integral feature.

One of your American brethren Fred Wiseman is still making documentaries just by pointing his carmera at interesting stuff, and he's the best practiotioner of the genre.

A boxing match is a Sport Event captured on camera, not counted as a film as such.
