As am I. Georges Méliès was a master of early cinema. Modern special effects artists owe everything to him. D.W. Griffith even explicitly stated "I owe him everything." at one point or another. He truly was the father of special effects. Sadly, such individuals as Thomas Edison and the Lumiére brothers are more recognized than Méliès at times because of their steps in the development of modern cinema itself. Méliès Practically invented the narrative while such contemporaries were generally filming rudimentary documentaries.

This is true. Though his importance to the development of early cinema cannot be overlooked, Thomas Edison was certainly a crook in his own right.
