2 versions?

I have found two movie clips that claim to be L'arroseur arrosé by Lumière. Both sources look legit. Did the Lumière brothers remake their own movie? Could anyone clarify this please?

This one looks a little more primitive, I assume this is the original. In this version, the boy gets spanked:

At the end of this clip, there's another version, where the boy gets sprinkled himself:

Thank you for noticing this, too! Why are there multiple listings for this short? So it was released in 1895, 1896, AND 1897? Something doesn't seem right . . .

So don't just blame Hollywood for remakes! It's the French who started it!

-ha- Cute.

It was such a success it was remade at least 3 times. Though I'm not sure which one is which. I have seen 3 versions: Two that claim to be the 1895 version 1) where the gardener puts down the hose and spanks the boy(I guess this is the original), and 2) where the gardener kicks the boy and then sprinkles him. And there's also 3)A 1899 one called The Biter Bit with a person mowing the grass in the background.

Though it has been known for them to re-make a film but sell it as the same thing because they wore out the negative.
