Too long and boring

Not sure what the director was trying to say with this film but if he was trying to build suspense towards the end he certainly failed - I could only watch this halfway through before giving up. The story was lacking, the cinematography barely decent, special effects were pathetic - acting was alright but that's hardly an achievement considering the actors didn't have all that much to do anyway (how many speaking parts were there even? And who was in the leading role? It was pretty confusing). They should have worked more on the script, making a tighter, more streamlined story; now the plot was all over the place as if they couldn't decide where to go with it or I suppose they thought "well, we'll make this very vague and let the audience figure out the deeper meaning behind the actions because we're so artsy-smartsy and ahead of the curve. Oh and we'll also make our film in black and white because we want to alienate the mainstream movie-going public". OK that style might have worked 120 years ago but not today... people want to see explosions, CGI, naked skin. Not all this walking-through-the-gates-in-different-directions-looking-mysterious art stuff.

The dog was definitely up to something though. I'm hoping it becomes a zombie dog in the latter part of the movie and eats the rest of the cast - THAT would make me watch the rest of this prolonged snooze-fest.

It's a thumbs down from me for this debut director. I haven't seen any of his other movies but they better be more thrilling: this only qualifies as a cheap student film and no major studio is going to give work to a guy who wants to do this "controlled chaos as a metaphor of life" thing... I would suggest including some man-eating vegetables, a gigantic bunny or a bunch of space aliens playing country music in the next movie if he wants to reach a wider audience. No wonder this movie has few ratings on IMDb and hardly any discussion about it. But I don't want to be too negative either, I did enjoy some parts - there was a pretty wild biker guy in the movie which hints that the director may have interest in action after all - and this director could still go far. Cheers!

It sure lacks some action, but I watched it entirely. It has its great moments. My favorite one is when the door's closing at the end, while the dog comes back to the studio. I think it is a reference to The Godfather.

If you want a movie directed by the Lumière brothers with more action, you should see L'arrivée d'un train en gare de la Ciotat. It is a horror/action movie about a train which arrives at the railway station. The actors are pretty good in this one too and it has some funny moments (when someone runs besides the train or when the detective walks backwards).
