“Beto” and the “Cult of Personality” Politics

“A charismatic candidate develops a cult of personality, then uses the party apparatus as a platform not for any ideas, but rather to promote a celebrity brand.”

Perfect description for lifetime Democrat Donald J. Trump who from time to time flipped to the Reform party then the Republican party to use their aparatus as a platform not for any ideas but rather to promote his celebrity brand that was riding on billions of dollars of investments in an entire lifetime of failed business adventures. He's already dealing with multiple emoluments clause (using the Presidency for personal profit) court cases against him.

Why are you threatened by Red Republican Texas (what's Beto winning the Texas Democratic primary matter to Republicans) but not Bernie Sanders, the presumptive frontrunner, the most popular candidate, the candidate that polled better than Hillary in head-to-head match-ups against Trump, the person everybody said would have won had he been the nominee? Why not focus on Bernie Sanders who will most likely knock Beto out?

Oh, it’s Trump, TOO. Not “instead of,” but TOO. “Beto” to the best of my knowledge doesn’t even have one of those “It can mean whatever you want it to mean” slogans like MAGA.

If he has no slogan and if he advocates killing babies and if he's a drunken criminal and a subhuman Irish caricature with zero chance of defeating Trump, why are you here instead of over on the Bernie Sanders board or the "I'm kind of not sure but I'm dominating all the polls, everybody wants me, so maybe I'll join the first debate" Joe Biden board? The GOP twitter is actively tweeting lies and character assassinations about many of the Democratic candidates, Elizabeth and Hickenlooper (and Beto) were singled out today (looks like Kamala and Bernie and Mayor Pete have just been targeted too), why not spread your special brand of joy on their boards? Pretty sure household name Elizabeth Warren will get a boost after the first debate, why is the Texas drunkard who wears dresses and sings about cows and hacks computers and wants "criminal illegal aliens" released from federal custody the one Republicans on this site are suddenly obsessed with? Could it be because he motivated many of Texas' own local and state law enforcement officials to speak out against Trump's anti-immigration rhetoric? And post their own data and records to prove Trump's anti-immigration rhetoric was a lie? Which made enough Texas Republican voters vote blue straight down-the-ballot to send a message to their own party that their policies are wrong?

I got through part of that before I realized, bless your heart, you’re just repeating the same old tropes.

Well, hun, if you want to put a party hat on a picture of an old lady then say you’ve “dehumanized” her, then expect me — an old lady — to be angry about it, you’d have a long wait. Hats don’t dehumanize anyone. 🤦‍♀️

The point of my post [btw, you should be a professional limbo dancer, because everything goes over your head] was that we’re living in an age of the “Cult of Personality” Politics on BOTH sides of the aisle.

How come I've never heard of this guy Beto before, but now I'm afraid he'll be president next year? That's scary.
