Was Avril Lavigne the Billie Eilish of the 2000s?

Avril was that edgy, try hard 'pop' girl from the 00s in a period where both Britney and Christina were dominating the charts. To look, act and sound more different than the two blonde pop girls, she adopted a more 'emo' kinda look that set her apart from all the other girls.

Both she and Billie have in common that they wear ugly ass clothes and act way to deep in their interviews.

Good point. AV may very well have been the BE of the 2000s.
I knew a very young lady back then (just becoming a teen) who liked AV, and I tried to point her to Alanis. That landed with a thud, haha, at least at the time. But I didn't feel comfortable with her having an intrigue with Avril. At the old Blockbuster there was a prominently displayed "rag" which had AV on the cover with a banner across that made her look like she was topless. Add in all the black eyeliner, she didn't look like a wholesome example for a young lady.

I think Amy Lee was. Avril had a makeover about 4 years into her career (2006-ish) where she kind of lost her edge. Got facial plastic surgery on her nose, bleached her hair and started wearing designer clothes. She then got married at ''22''. I can not see Billie going down this path.

Kind of, but I think Billie will be able to leverage the current social media based pop culture to stay relevant for longer than Avril did.
