AGE

Does anyone know how old Tom Taylor is/was when this movie was made?
The IMDB picture shows a young blonde kid, but the movie boy has brown hair and looks considerably older.
I tried a Google search and found only ONE reference that seemed to indicate he was 11. That looks like the age of the boy in the picture but the movie character looks to be 13-14.
I am thinking that perhaps the character in the book(s) was younger but the movie made him older. I thought he did an EXCELLENT job in the role.
Any thoughts on the subject?
