Gatwa was born in Rwanda, raised in Scotland.

If you google "is Ncuti Gatwa gay" it just says he doesn't talk about it. But his character in Sex Education is gay and gay critics says he's convincing!

Russell T. Davies is gay and has gay characters in all his shows. Jack Harkness back in 2005.
Davies insists all gay characters be played by gay actors. I'm pretty sure the new Doctor is gay.

Straight actors can play gay characters and gay actors can play straight characters. It's called "acting".

Isn't that actually called appropriation?

The so called actor Tom Hanks got away with this a few years ago but I think nowadays that would heavily frowned upon as it's stealing the legitimacy of experience from a genuinely gay actor...

You usually can't tell by looking at someone whether they're gay or straight.

And even if a gay actor is a total swish, like George Takei for example, Sulu never had a limp wrist.

mmm... Possibly. But that's not relevant to the appropriation issue.

Gay characters should only be played by gay actors. Otherwise you're robbing a genuine homosexual the chance to bring their authenticity to the role.

I live in Hollywood. Half of all male actors are gay. Lol. I guess we'll just have to make more Brokeback Mountains.
