Just Call it Amerigo Vespucci Day and Be Done with It

A lot of foreign national trolls seem to be weighing in on the Christopher Columbus controversy, so as an American I'm going to explain how this holiday came about.

In the 1930s we had a growing Italian population that were wahhhhing about how they needed representation as "Americans". So, Italian groups petitioned the US government to create Christopher Columbus Day in their honor and then spread this lie that we should all love Italians and see them as American because THEY "discovered" America.

Well, there were several things wrong about this from the start. Columbus never discovered America. He just didn't.

Secondly, there was always controversy about Columbus' heritage and loyalties, whether he was Italian or Portuguese. And he sailed for Spain--not Italy.

Third, we're called "America" after Amerigo Vespucci, an Italian mapmaker.

The Italians who moved here in droves were of a different class and region from Columbus. Taking credit and pride for his accomplishments because he was "Italian" was ridiculous.

The point is that Columbus Day was never a legitimate holiday. It was the first politically correct holiday, whipped up to make Americans think that they owe their entire country to dirt poor Sicilian peasants who got off the boat merely 50 years before and became organ grinders and sweatshop workers.

The holiday is older:

“The first Columbus Day celebration took place on October 12, 1792 when the Columbian Order of New York, better known as Tammany Hall, held an event to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the historic landing”

Wikipedia says a lot of things.

I trust wikipedia way more than you or some "liberal" sources. At least wiki presents sources and if you are not a total moron you can see the source for the claim for your self.

"The 300th anniversary of his landing was celebrated in New York City in 1792 by the Society of St. Tammany, or Columbian Order, and the 400th anniversary, in 1892, by presidential proclamation nationwide. "

Sounds like you have facts via credible documentation. The hippie chick does not.

A lot of foreign national trolls who lack cultural perspective on American history love Wikipedia and the internet, because it makes it so much easier to force factoids into a lie that can be easily swallowed by other foreign national trolls.

Case in point: guess who is from NYC, bred and born? Guess who knows more than anyone who and what the Society of St. Tammany was? Tammany was a NYC-based political party that later became one of the most corrupt political "machines" in the country, headed by a villain known as Boss Tweed.

Whatever Tammany celebrated had absolutely nothing to do with the establishment of what we now call Columbus Day. Columbus Day, like I said, was an appeasement to Italian-American immigrants, who immigrated in droves in the late 1880s-early 1990s and established a sizable enough base to start demanding recognition in the early 1920as.

Foreign national degenerates like you, who don't know anything about the United States, can posture and bluster all you want, but all you're doing is indulging in an online fantasy where you think your disinformation carries any weight. It doesnt.

Well, you are from NYC and were alive at all the events so you know firsthand what was that about.

Care to share some of that eternal life vial? Or GTFO with your stupid missinformed opinion.

Yeah, I know how you people like to twist and modify history to match your fake narrative.

Now GTFO.

Let's rename this holiday after the OP and all his freak buddies.

We can name it
