Mental Health is Important, But...

...she has made millions off of endorsements, and the U.S. Olympic Gymnastics Team is built entirely around her. So, if she has to take herself out of competition for her mental health, that is fine. But, since she has gotten very rich off of being part of the U.S. Olympic Team, she should be giving a certain amount of money back to them, since they invested tens of millions in her and the team. And, they didn't get back what they invested in for this Olympics. She should certainly be compensating her fellow female team members the $10,000/each or so they lost by not getting Gold Medals.

reply

I don't know what the real reason is but hiding behind 'mental health' is nonsense. Can you imagine Michael Jordan citing that and bowing out of the NBA Finals? She is no rookie.

reply

Yeah, can you imagine if Jordan just bailed on his team for two years during his prime?

Crazy.

reply

Not during the finals.

reply

Well, LeBron James has had hissy fits over having to go back to work for this past season, and then walked off the court after his team got its ass handed to them during the playoffs this year. So, I don't know about Jordan, but I wouldn't at all be surprised to see James pull something like that.

reply

There is no analog to that situation. A valid analogy would be Michael Jordan bricking a critical three-pointer during the finals and bowing out of that game, before it was over, and citing mental health issues just before announcing he's not going to play for the remainder of the series. Biles's claims would be more persuasive if she had quit before f'ing up a landing.

reply

The reason she walked is because she messed up the landing. She knew she wasn't in the right head space and didn't want to potentially kill herself if she knew she wasn't right. You can compare her all you want to others, but Jordan being off couldn't potentially lead to him paralyzing or killing himself.

reply

Potentially kill herself? How? Haha, dummy

reply

This is how, HaHa, dumb shit! https://www.womenshealthmag.com/fitness/a37158050/what-are-the-twisties-gymnastics/

reply

That doesn’t explain how she could have died, haha you’re an idiot. Would you like to provide examples of gymnasts dying from the twisties? What a bunch of wussy’s these gymnasts are, there’s padding on the ground all around them haha

reply

HaHa, "a bunch of wussy's" (which is not how it's spelled you fuckin' idiot) part of whose moniker is Gay, no less, ha,ha. I have firsthand knowledge of that padding and am aware it will not prevent a broken neck, back or even death, you ignoramus.

Dude, you really think basketball is as dangerous as gymnastics? Whole hole did you grow up in?

reply

I have the twisties whahhhhhh!!!! Excuse me while I go focus on my mental health, like whatever the hell that means.

This gymnast became a quadriplegic after she broke her neck, and she died in her 40s as a result of her quadriplegia.

Don't be a douchebag.

reply

dummy above you was shaking in his boots because he feared that Simone Biles would instantly die from falling 4 feet on a padded mat haha.

You can’t provide evidence of this ever happening instantly? Why’s he so scared then?

reply

Ok, people have died doing almost every sport ever. One rare instance is not a reasonable excuse to bail on the Olympics, particularly when her presence means someone else missed out on the opportunity.

reply

Women are just as vicious and as cutthroat as men. So, this giving up stuff, and expecting the world to break down in tears over their having a difficult moment is kind of pitiful. Women have been using their "fragility" facade since the beginning of time. We have had to hear Demi Lovato go on and on about her "mental health" while she and Michael Phelps made money off that mental health app, which definitely doesn't give them a lot of credibility. Now, Lovato is lesbian, bi or something, and we're supposed to be falling all over ourselves about her condition. No, thanks.

reply

Real mental health issues are not "hiding" or "nonsense", but I think it's perfectly reasonable to doubt whether she has a real or serious mental problem. It really looks like she dropped out because she was having a bad Olympics.

reply

She's unhappy that she's not doing well, and probably feels ashamed about it. She's afraid of looking bad, so she bows out of the competition and uses the term "mental health". She knows that if she uses that term everyone will love her because we're in 2021 and that's the way the world works. But at the end of the day she's just a quitter. Probably butthurt about not being the best in the world anymore. Get over it simone, ya crybaby.

reply

She's just Jock X. Yes, she has done spectacularly in gymnastics. But, part of that is being born with the physical and mental ability to pull that off. Lots of very hard work to get to where she has gotten, yes, but still. Our world is obsessed with stuff like sports and celebrity, which is why our world just barely crawls forward over the years and decades.

reply

That's how I see it too.

I haven't made up my mind as to whether I believe this is sincere or not - both are entirely posible - but this statement is absolutely true. It's particularly true of young women in this day and age. They all "have trauma" and "PTSD". It's the same exact mindset of those who randomly throw out accusations of rape, harassment, racism, etc.

See, humans are stupid and reactionary. There ARE people who have been raped or victims of harassment, sexism, and racism in the past, but this generation takes that and magnifies that by about 1000. They don't like you or disagree with you? You get accused of something. Don't wanna do something? Claim you have mental illness.

reply

If it's a REAL mental health issues, I absolutely support her decision You cannot control that stuff when it happens. Whether we would admit it or not, MANY of us know what it feels like to varying degrees. And knowing the pressure on such a public figure, I think it's entirely possible she cracked.

But I have to admit, I am skeptical. Soooo many young women in their 20s today claim they have issues without a diagnosis. They just blurt it out. It's a Get out of Jail Free card.It is ALL OVER the place. They just proclaim it and BOOM, responsibility forfeited. If she's faking this because she is having a bad Olympics and can't handle losing, FUCK. HER.

reply

How the hell could she be faking? Did you not see her do the fault? There was FEAR all over her face! She said she lost control mid air. Do you know what could've happened???? She could've killed herself had she landed elsewhere!!! I really think that's what some of all yall wanted, a fucking sacrifice!!! Y'all want something horrible to happen to her!!

reply

Yeah, the hate and judgement passing is just gaining more momentum daily with these wannabe, armchair quarterbacks, is it not?

reply

You don’t just forget how to do gymnastics lol, muscle memory doesn’t suddenly go on vacation haha. You idiots will literally say anything to defend her.

reply

It is indeed possible. Sometimes it's known as the "yips", and it's a mental thing. In professional baseball, there have been players who have thrown, run, hit, etc. their whole lives and careers...and (for random and odd mental reasons) all of a sudden lose the ability to do something as simple as throw the ball from second base to first base. (For an example, Google Chuck Knoblauch, Yips). They just throw it straight into the dirt, or send it sailing way over the head of the firstbaseman.

From what I've been hearing (from gymnasts that have been speaking on this)....there is a gymnastics version of the yips. And I get that it can be very unnerving...because a lot of those incredible jumps and flips they do....rely on a confidence and trust in knowing exactly where your body is in the air, and how it will land. Mistakes can be disastrous. Now....amplify that by being on a global stage....one in which you're expected to do the best and be the best ever.

I get how that can psych you right out. And I think that is much of what's happening with Biles. I think she's emotionally spent, the moment got too big, and as the nerves began to affect her performance, it began to perpetuate. The more the mistakes happened, the more pressure she felt on the next routine. This all makes sense to me. Now....some would say: Part of being a world champion is the ability to power through the mental part of it all.

I'm not sure how I feel about the Biles situation. Do I think she's a "quitter"? Not really. I think SHE feels....if she continues, her routines could be disastrous and embarrassing on an international stage. And, she's simply being honest that she's not in the right headspace to perform at the level expected of her. You could still fake it in some sports, like basketball....or on a rowing team, etc. But not in an individualized sport....in which there are minute differences between a stuck landing....and a disastrous (and perhaps injury-inducing) fall from a balance beam, vault, etc...

I wish her well. She's a tremendous athlete, and seems like a good person.

reply

Excellently said!

reply

Yes, in gymnastics its called, the twisties. I think I (mp) it. Anyway, I loved your response, thanks.

reply

I am concerned about the trend of young women airing undiagnosed mental illness to misappropriate victimhood. But I don’t perceive that here. I have to agree with your take here. You were very nuanced and willing to give a fellow human the benefit of the doubt. We need to be doing that more. I also think that a person who has her accomplishments deserves discretion to make her own judgment calls.

reply

"I really think that's what some of all yall wanted, a fucking sacrifice!!! Y'all want something horrible to happen to her!!"

Oh fuck off, you psycho. I wrote a completely objective post about this situation and you said I wanted her "sacrificed", LOL what a HEAD CASE.

reply

Did I respond to your bitch ass???

reply

Why yes, yes you did.

reply

or just revoke her passport. Dont let her back. This would be a great way to send them all back.

As per Joe Rogan podcast, it turns out she was on some meds. If you know anything about the stuff these pharmaceutical companies put out, then you know stopping taking their meds can have severe consequences. Truth being, she should never have been on those meds to begin with - but olympics are corrupt - only Russians are apparently doping - lol
