Audrey Lorber (2019)

She was arrested for the importation of 17 grams of weed into Russia, spent a month in prison and released with only a $235 fine...

So why was Griner sentenced to 9 years for only carrying a couple half full vape cartridges, which equated to less than a gram?

I don't personally like Griner due to her Anti-American sentiment, but I know she doesn't deserve 9 years behind bars and anyone acting like this wasn't a politically motivated sentence (United States Ukraine war support) is being willfully ignorant.

I agree with you, but the problem is the Russian government, not the USA government.

The Russian government released Audrey and is holding Brittney.

What is your point?

Why did they release Lorber with only a fine after 1 month and sentence Griner to 9 years for a lesser crime?

My point is that people are fucking stupid for not acknowledging this was a Politically motivated sentence. I can agree Griner is guilty, but the punishment is unjust. The posts in this thread are sick. Someone on the other side of their political spectrum gets arrested and people celebrate. Sad state of affairs our country is in right now where people are so divided.

You're correct. The arrest and all that follows is political on the part of the Russian government. not the USA government. At least one other USA citizen is in Russian prison. Should they not be freed also?

Marc Fogel is serving 14 years for weed, so yeah, that's another trumped up charge just to say fuck you to the US.

Paul Whealan was arrested for espionage and his case is a lot more complicated. He's being held on espionage charges and they have a lot of damning evidence against him. He is also a citizen of England and Ireland.

This wasn't the point of my post though. Politically motivated posters are acting like 9 years is a perfectly normal sentence for making a mistake just because it is someone they don't like. In reality, in Russia, possession of up to 6 grams is an administrative offense, punishable by a fine or detention of 15 days.

You are correct. Thanks

Because he's really a man.
