Americans, the world is a tough place

I’m seeing on this board the typical American hubris and ignorance.

Here is the truth, Americans. The world is a tough place. Much tougher than even the toughest places in the U.S.

Many Americans love to go to other countries and refuse to adapt to their laws and customs. They think that they can get away with anything just because they are Americans.

The world is not your playground. Every country has their own customs and laws. When you enter those countries, you need to obey those laws. It does not matter whether you think those laws are just or not. It is their country and they decide what those laws are.

Brittany Griner chose to go to Russia and brought a substance that is considered illegal in that country. She is not a political prisoner or a prisoner of war. We should not be attempting to exchange important criminals for her.

Let this be a lesson to Americans. When you go to a foreign country, you need to familiarize yourself with laws and customs first. Always be respectful and follow those laws.

reply

They act like children, they dress like children, they eat like children, they have the cultural awareness and baggage of children, and they think the world is one big Disneyland.

I'm generalizing, of course. Not all Americans are like that.
But this is the image they have created of themselves abroad, funny thing is they don't even realize it.

I can't help that the world sees Americans this way, only Americans can change this image.

Disclaimer for offended citizens of the Greatest Country On Earth: I think most Europeans are stupid too, and I still think America is the best, until 1950 or so.
Where and how did you guys lose your ways?

reply

Democrat policies!

reply

That was a quick one.

FDR and Truman were Democrats, though.
And if you look at the list of US presidents you will see that the presidents were alternately Democratic and Republican, so that can't be the problem.

reply

RINOs aren't Republican!

reply

Democrat policies

And here we have another example of how out-of-touch Americans are.

For the most part, Americans being seeing as ignorant, has not political party.

And when it is political, it is usually the rightwing Americans that are seen as the most ignorant.

reply

That makes no sense!

reply

It makes EVERY sense, dumbwit!

reply

No, not at all!

reply

WE DON'T CARE...WE REALLY DON'T...OTHER'S OPINIONS OF US ARE WORTH DICK...WE KNOW WE ARE NUMBER ONE AND WE ACT LIKE SPOILED ASSHOLES BECAUSE OF IT...BUT MAKE NO MISTAKE...THE SECOND SOME OTHER FOOLISH NATION THINKS THE WAY WE ACT AND THINK IS A REASON TO START ANY SHIT...WE WILL GO FULL ON RABID ASSHOLE...GOD BLESS AMERICA...AND NOWHERE ELSE.😘

reply

Wow, what a moron. A stuck Caps Lock on this moron's keyboard is the least of this moron's problems in life.

reply

VERY WELL SAID...I BET YOU GOT A LITTLE HARD WHEN YOU READ IT BACK TO YOURSELF...SUCH A COOL,TOUGH DUDE.

reply

You are a sad, strange little man, and you have my pity.

reply

COOL...I AM GONNA TAKE YOUR PITY AND SMEAR IT ALL OVER MY NAKED BODY.

reply

Ewwww! You complete sicko!

reply

WANNA HOLD ONTO MY TV CLICKER...IT IS VERY WARM...IF YOU GET MY DRIFT.😘

reply

We came to this country to get away from the Europeans who wanted to tax us all into dept and mock and persecute us for our religious beliefs and now the ones who pine over Europe and how great it is compared to Stupid America are the same ones who want to tax us all into dept and mock and persecute us for our religious beliefs so do the math on that one

reply

I forgot to mention their simplified black and white view of the world, fed by corporate media.

reply

more Americans label american tourists in this way than foreigners do. It's a stereotype we've given ourselves, but we aren't actually perceived that way by other countries as much as you think. Dateline did an undercover exposé of this a while back.

reply

I'm not saying anything you're saying doesn't have an element of truth about it, but since you posted that in the Brittney Griner page, we'll keep this about her.

What you're seeing is posts from a very vocal but statistically insignificant percentage of Americans on this board. Most Americans don't give a crap about Griner or her entitled ways including breaking the laws of another country.

Most of us believe in "their house, their rules". In other words, tough noogies for her.

reply

Most of us believe

YOU DO NOT SPEAK FOR "US"...ONLY YOURSELF.

reply

If you think most Americans want her released, you're delusional.

But on the bright side, she won't have to listen to that horrible American National Anthem for a while...

reply

YOU ENJOY TICKLING PUTIN'S BALLS,DON'T CHA?...AN AMERICAN CITIZEN WITH LESS THAN A GRAM OF CANNABIS OIL BEING HELD AND USED AS RUSSIA'S PAWN...KEEP DOING YOU...IF THESE ARE YOUR HONEST THOUGHTS...YOU ARE A JOKE AND I AM LAUGHING.😘

reply

Perhaps if you did more reading and less laughing, you might know more. Just some advice you might consider.

There are two charges in Griner's case. One for possession which is a fine and a few days. Not a big deal but an embarrassment to Americans.

The other is importation of drugs into Russia, and that carries a bigger sentence. So you see, she's not being held for the cannabis oil, she's being held for importation of drugs.

Griner knew this and imported drugs anyway. How stupid can one be?

If we had laws that were enforced along with our border we wouldn't have so many of your compadres dying of fentanyl laced overdoses here.

reply

IF YOU READ MORE YOU WOULD KNOW THAT SHE WAS WELL AWARE OF THE LAW AND DID NOT MEAN TO PACK THAT SHIT...WHICH A SMOKER KNOWS WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN ENOUGH TO LAST A FUCKING WEEK.

HONESTLY...I DON'T CARE...FUCK RUSSIA AND EVERYONE WHO LOOKS LIKE THEM.

reply

Hmmm.. a drug user says she didn't mean to pack her drugs.. I guess that makes sense. I withdraw my previous observations.

reply

NOT A DRUG AND NOT ENOUGH TO LAST LONG ENOUGH TO MAKE IT WORTH THE RISK OR HASSLE...SHE PLAYS THERE WHEN PHOENIX ARE IN THEIR OFFSEASON...THIS ISN'T HER FIRST TIME IN COUNTRY...SHE KNOWS WHERE TO FIND HER HERB IN THAT FUCKED UP COUNTRY.

reply

I never even heard about her before seeing this thread, lol

reply

But isn't the max sentence for the amount of the substance she was carrying with her 2 weeks in jail-prison and a fine?
She wasn't even carrying an ounce.

She's been held for way longer.

I may be wrong I haven't been following the case very closely, but I believe I read something along these lines a couple of weeks ago.

reply

But isn't the max sentence for the amount of the substance she was carrying with her 2 weeks in jail-prison and a fine?

There are two charges. The possession of the small amount she had was minor which is usually a fine and a couple of weeks. But bring drugs into the country is the charge most of her defenders are leaving out.

Importing drugs into Russia however means a 10 year max sentence for the amount she was found with. If she bought the cannabis once she was in Russia, she would have been home by now.

reply

SO..THE MESSAGE IS RUSSIA IS A MOVIE THEATER?

reply

SO..THE MESSAGE IS RUSSIA IS A MOVIE THEATER?

Can you interpret that so that an unimpaired person can understand? Thanks.

reply

DON'T BRING YOUR TACOS IN BECAUSE WE HAVE NACHOS TO SELL YOU.

reply

Oh, OK. Got it. Pretty funny and a good point as well.

But realize that drug use in any country is a bigger problem with lax importation laws. It makes more sense to punish the pushers and importers than the end users. Its always been that way, even in the States.

reply

Oh I wasn't aware about the importing part.
Well, ignorance does not excuse you from the law.
Thanks.

reply

And, to be fair, there's no chance that Griner was importing her drugs with the intention of selling them or distributing them to anyone else, which is why the law was written. But it's still the law and leaves her *legally* snared as a pawn in the political climate of Putin's Nazi Russia.

I have no doubt she'll be released within the year in a prisoner exchange.

OP: You must be talking to the liberals in America. They think rules don’t apply to them. Those of us with brains take responsibility for our actions.

reply

SO...YOU KNOW SOMEONE WITH A BRAIN AND ASKED THEIR OPINION?

reply

YEAH, YOUR MOTHER AFTER I FUCKED HER BRAIN OUT….

How did you type your response? Find someone with a brain, did you?

reply

LMAO...THAT'S WHAT YOU'RE GOING WITH?...GOD BLESS YA,CHONGO.🤣

reply

Fuck off dick lick. Now, I know why there’s an ignore button….To block jerkoffs like you!

reply

DID YOU DO IT?...DID YOU IGNORE ME?...I AM DYING TO KNOW.🥒

Nah, it’s Americans in general. Republicans also think rules don’t apply to them. Just see who was flaunting the Covid rules during the pandemic. It was mostly Republicans.

Regardless, ugly Americans have no political party.

reply

RULES….NOT LAWS! Hey, if you want to wear a mask and get a vaccine because you are told to, that’s your business. Some of us still believe in freedom. The plandemic is TOTALLY different than sneaking drugs in/out of a foreign country!

They were rules that were allowed by law.

This right here confirms everything I said.

reply

This confirms NOTHING! The CDC has NO POWER to enforce laws!

reply

Kind of a dumb thing to say... I can think of about a million democrats flaunting COVID rules... in California alone Pelosi, Newsom, and SF mayor London Breed were all caught 'cheating' even though they were the ones pushing it. That's hypocrisy at the highest level.

"Regardless, ugly Americans have no political party."

Huh??? Can you elaborate on this? I have no idea what you're talking about here.

I said most, not all. That is not even debatable.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ugly_American_(pejorative)

Ugly American" is a stereotype depicting American citizens as exhibiting loud, arrogant, demeaning, thoughtless, ignorant, and ethnocentric behavior mainly abroad, but also at home. Although the term is usually associated with or applied to travelers and tourists, it also applies to U.S. corporate businesses in the international arena

reply

Sure it is debatable. Anyone who says something like that is practicing intellectual dishonesty.

Then you mention ugly Americans, which is a stereotype (right there in your definition). Are you saying stereotypes are fact?

reply

It this case it is. Many Americans go to other countries and screw around as if they own the place. They think they are invisible because they are Americans.

reply

I could argue the same thing about any nationality. Go visit Yellowstone and your mind will be blown. You can easily tell who is from outside the US because of how they disrespect the place. I was in Bali and they thanked God I was an American instead of an Aussie or Kiwi. Last time I was in Amsterdam the workers at the cafe AND hostel I was at told me they way preferred US patrons to Germans and Brits.

reply

If you say so…

reply

It's not even debatable.

reply

The last time you were in Amsterdam you were working in a window as a male prostitute.

reply

Hey, it's good money.

reply

shift just ended huh

reply

They think they are invisible because they are Americans.

We're not? Well I guess that explains why my bank heist attempts always fail when I'm in another country.

reply

Any American with intelligence and common sense knows this.

reply

Yet your women serve us beers and a blow job for two dollars.

reply

Whose women?

reply

Your women

reply

Dude, American women won't even say "hi" to you unless you have a few hundred in your wallet.

This thread is about Griner. Now there's an American woman who would beat the crap outta you and put you in the hospital for free. And she'd smoke a joint afterward. 🤣

reply

What country are you from?

reply

I am American. But I am aware of the attitudes many Americans have when they travel abroad.

reply

I asked because I see this “ugly American” stereotype mentioned by residents of other countries whose governments have their hands out year after year for the $50B in annual American financial aid to which no other donor-country is even closely competitive. And, their citizens arrive at American borders to be taken in as refugees or immigrants in figures that dwarf all remaining countries combined. Seems there’s some foreign ignorance and hubris about which Americans can likewise be annoyed.

Nothing you mentioned is remotely related to this topic.

Nothing excuses Americans going to other countries and behaving like jackasses.

Americans need to educate themselves before they go to another country. They need to respect the customs, culture and laws of those countries. Unfortunately, Americans have a bad reputation worldwide for not doing so.

reply

I don’t disagree with your primary point. If you’re going to be a guest in someone’s home you should behave respectfully and go by their rules. But my point is related. Many of these countries - including Russia before the war - always have hat in hand for American aid or security but then drum up anti-American jingoism and stereotypes when it suits political purposes. American visitors are repeatedly arrested on false and trumped up charges by foreign governments

reply

Americans have earned this reputation. It is not so much the government of those countries, but the local population that has to deal with these tourist.

Just because some countries may take some aid, does not mean the local population needs to put up with the tourist’s behavior.

reply

probably tourist from a country over that got you on the soapbox
