Jonathan Kay: On Jordan Peterson and his critics

By a notable columnist who knew little about Peterson when they first met.

But then, after Peterson had been speaking for about 10 minutes, it clicked for me. His ideas came together in a powerful way, and I got a glimpse into why he’s become Canada’s most influential intellectual. It wasn’t just that his ideas struck me as original and well-informed. It was the atmosphere of suffering that accompanied his speaking style. In those moments, Peterson took on a tragic, almost gothic aspect. It was as if facing up to the truth of his ideas caused him spasms of intellectual agony, which he endured for the sake of educating his audience.

And while these two groups [fans & haters] are at each other’s proverbial throats on social media (and sometime even at real-life protests outside his speaking events), they are flip sides of the same basic phenomenon. As Peterson himself has discussed, we are living in a post-Christian age, and many people now turn to politics, academia, activism and sometimes even their YouTube autoplay feed, seeking figures who can play the role of ersatz prophet or demon. For some, it’s Donald Trump, or Bernie Sanders, or Greta Thunberg. For others, it’s Jordan Peterson.

LOL. hes a snake oil salesman and his schtick is simple.

Appeal to young angry white males by reinforcing that they are the victims and the PC culture is persecuting them. Rather than recognizing that reality is complex. instead say there are simple answers to it by rehashing old tenants (make your bed aka take personal responsibility. wowwww such a new concept. so profound) so you appear as a deep intellectual father figure guru..

Peterson Hasn't said anything intelligent, original or impactful in his entire career.

"As Peterson himself has discussed, we are living in a post-Christian age, and many people now turn to politics, academia, activism and sometimes even their YouTube autoplay feed, seeking figures who can play the role of ersatz prophet or demon. this is exactly what im talking about. Simplistic dumbed down comments that mean nothing. What he says only makes sense if it is completely Ahistorical, and ignores actual nuances like economic, political and social factors.

EG: bernie and trump aren't a prophet for most people. you need context. Americans don't feel represented by the political system. they feel it has sold them out economically. and people view these two as outsiders who will give the system the middle finger. there is far more but that is one big quick take. Again reality is far more complex than Petersons dumbed down "analysis"

SO you didn't read the article? Just quoted my OP.

"Appeal to young angry white males by reinforcing that they are the victims and the PC culture is persecuting them"

Typical lefty, knows nothing except lies from the MSM.

you wrote quotes.. and I addressed them.. why put those if im not supposed to address those? When you post a link and include some quotes the idea is those are your main arguments or premises you are trying to push.
How silly of me to adress them.. Lol "typical lefty. addressing arguments I presented! instead he's supposed to read the whole article (which I did) and address.. other parts of the article not related to my quotes I gave"

Notice how I addressed your quotes assertions directly. and you couldn't address a single one one of mine? yes Jordan Peterson is part of the "intellectual dark web". which includes ben Shapiro and Dave Rubin. SO Peterson doesn't appeal to mostly young males? he doesn't constantly attack PC culture (that's literally his claim to fame)? he doesn't appeal mostly to conservative?

his constant argument is literally "the insane left and SJW and PC culture is attacking us".

another embarrassed conservative who can't argue anything. you Get unmanned and dismantled so easily. Cant address anything. just cries about the MSM and how mean the lefty was.

Your cucks strategy of fragile victimization is rinse and repeat
