can't tell if I like this guy or not...

On one hand, I appreciate that he actually tries to make bold, original points in his videos (as opposed to hacks like Nerdwriter1). Unlike many other video essayists out there, I get the sense that he actually wants to make his audience think, and not just validate opinions they already hold. Patrick seems like the kinda guy who doesn't mind being hated on every once in a while, so long as he was able to honestly express himself. I also think his analysis of directors and the evolution of their careers is far more interesting than the overabundance of critiques on film form and technique on Youtube (if I see one more video discussing David Fincher's style, I'm gonna kill myself).

Yet, on the other hand, he also seems very pompous and in love with his own words. He tries way too hard to sound clever and poetic in so many of his videos, which ends up resulting in more cringe than anything. He also wastes a lot of the audience's time on needlessly long-winded setups and "storylines" in between the actual points he's making. He seems to think he's making actual films on his channel, and not just basic video essays. He comes off a bit Doug Walker-like in that regard.

What do you think of him?
