Because he was trapped. He would have been arrested the moment he stepped out of the Embassy, much less trying to go to an airport. I doubt he even had a valid passport.

Lots of stupid people on this board who know nothing of Assange or this case. They parrot imbecilities they heard from late-night comedians who are in lockstep with the State Dept. And the CIA. I feel sorry for Brits who look like bootlickers willing to obey the dictates of Washington.The whole fucking lot of them can drop dead for all I'm concerned. He had nowhere else to go. Let's think about it for a second; he was holed up in a small countries embassy(equador?)at the end of a dead end street in London. Nobody wants him now so I imagine he's just better off in the hands of the British authorities for another 5-10 years before he croaks from some stress related disorder.

He could have dug a tunnel in 7 years and escape. A car could have picked him up and take him to a safe place. The man has millions of fans, I'm pretty sure some of them would have helped him to escape.

woulda coulda shoulda...easy to say when behind the safety of your computer. At the end of the day, he's nothing but an internet hero. None of those fans could care less about them if there's a chance they'll be facing real world consequences for helping him out, even if they could get away with it.

Give me a break ... there are people in the embassy 7x24 and he did not have access to the whole embassy. Being locked up there for 7 years was worse than being in prison in serious ways. The time he spent was not counting towards any sentence, but I guess he thought he was faced with the death penalty ... which is what a lot of American politicians who were grandstanding called for. I don't think Assange did anything that was that bad, and he did his best not to release government documents that would out any spies. Now we have a glimmer about how dishonest and evil our government can be at times because of him.

I don't see it as THAT bad. He did get conjugal visits from groupies like Pamela Anderson. He wouldn't have gotten that in prison. But it must have really sucked for him when they cut off his internet access after he abused his privileges.

Regardless we just learned a few days ago a big reason Ecuador gave him the boot was because they came to the same conclusions as the Mueller Report did, which is they determined Assange was intimately tied to Russian intelligence. They commissioned a private Spanish security company, UC Global, to compile hundreds of surveillance reports on him which was leaked to the press and confirmed by Ecuadorian intel officials. the question and your ideas are pretty laughable. flying a helicopter into the middle of london? haha, come on now! same witha tunnel. he was stuck and we went pretty crazy. He should have just given up willingly, but some are out for his life, so he was rightfully scared.
