GoT topic: Stannis wasn't much concerned about Daenerys

Both were throne claimants competing for the Iron Throne, and yet Stannis seemed to be least worried about what Daenerys did in Essos. Besides, crossing over to Essos to fight her would be doing a lot, but again, both the throne claimants desired the throne, so they are gonna have to fight eventually.
Stannis, being a fine strategist chose to move against the Bolton traitors, an honorable move I must say its the least he can do to repay Ned for his sacrifice.
Any thoughts on why Dany's name wasn't mentioned in Stannis' small counsel?

my impression is that Stannis was out of the loop with respect to Daenerys. he had no recent information on her to suggest she was even still alive.

Now that can't be true considering Stannis was in Robert's counsel and was a Lord of Dragonstone and surely he has to keep up with news from the capital. The news of her raising armies and taking over Meereen spread all over Westeros, including the Night's watch. How much he knew about Daenerys is less certain...but most of the news in Westeros about matters from the far east usually comes from sailors, and Davos had his many contacts with Pirates and fishermen alike. Me thinks he gets his news even before it reaches King's Landing. It's just Stannis didnt lose his sleep over a girl raising armies on the other side of the world. He was focused on dealing with his trending issues - Lannisters and Boltons.

He was part of Roberty's council but Robert died before the dragons were hatched. if Stannis knew anything then it was simply that Dany was the wife of a horse lord and nothing more.

the news of Dany taking meereen was not known to the Night Watch as a hole. only to Aemon and Sam. Davos does know many sailors but for much of the time, he wasn't near the sea or spent much time with them. he was with Stannis. and much of the time they were in the field isolated from most information sources. in any event he was too busy with fighting the war in Westeros to worry about some pretender half the world away. Kings Landing had much better sources of information until Varys left. most of the people of Westeros and the various lords knew little of Daenerys. they had no information source to speak of.

Yep. He left for dragonstone right around the time he learned a girl in the far east is about to be wedded to a Dothraki horse lord. So he probably knew about that matter...not sure about the Unsullied but who knows, word might have spread but Stannis didnt give much priority to her.

Some things are left to our interpretation, the show doesn't explain everything in detail. But then, its not the night watchmen's concern, it's the Lord commanders and other noble lords who looked into such matters.

I think Varys wanted to see Dany on the throne and he found a perfect companion, Tyrion while Baelish, on the other hand, nobody knows what he really wants, whether he wants every throne claimant dead, I'm not sure but Stannis was part of his plan and he was really expecting him to defeat the Boltons. It's sad that Stannis had to rely on his false God and ruin everything. 

Wait, WHAT? Littlefinger conspired with Cersei to take the North for the Lannisters using his forces in the Vale. He did this in exchange for the promise of being named Warden of the North once both the Boltons AND Stannis were defeated.
Angered at the Boltons' betrayal, Cersei agrees with Baelish's plans to lead an army of Vale knights to Winterfell to reclaim the North for the Lannisters, as the warriors from the Eyrie are trained to fight in winter (the weather is starting to turn at this point). In exchange, Baelish asks to be appointed as the new Warden of the North once Winterfell is taken and both the Boltons and Stannis are defeated. Cersei agrees and tells him to return that night to have the King sign a royal decree promoting him.

What would be the point of backing Stannis? Even if he had won the Iron Throne, his reign would have been short-lived due to his inflexible nature, his unwillingness to play by the rules of the game of thrones. Even a king has to be willing to play politics and make unpleasant backroom deals, something that Stannis hated. King Stannis would have demanded that the houses that had opposed his bid for the throne suffer some kind of punishment before he would have any dealings with them. (Like how he cut off some of Davos' fingers as punishment for being a lifelong smuggler, even though Davos' smuggling abilities had saved Stannis' life and the lives of his people.) There would have been a massive rebellion by all the major families in Westeros. Littlefinger would not have fared well with such a king in power.

I think King Stannis could have been successful, but Baelish knows full well he could never survive.

That is why he betrayed the Starks, Stannis would have hanged Baelish for corruption.

I think Stannis was corrupt to not be concerned about Daenarys, she was a sea away, had no money or army, how could she be a threat?

The dragons and the Unsullied are something which he would have only heard rumours of at most, I doubt he would trust them, and even if he did, word of things like the fall of Meereen make it sound like she is carving out an empire in the east, if she does that then she will probably too busy to make it to Westeros any time soon. Long term she would have gone up his RADAR, but in the short term, which is all that he could afford to plan for post-Blackwater, she wasn't really a threat.
