What is feminist humour?

The new Bond film will apparently contain Waller-Bridge's "trademark feminist humour." What the heck does that mean?

reply

If her productions 'Fleabag' and 'Killing Eve' are anything to go by, feminist humour is making men look weak and inferior. Expect Bond to flail around trying to cock his gun whilst a female bystander shakes her head and does it without thinking twice, because that's what we'll be getting.

reply

LOL

reply

So in other words, it won't be funny at all.

reply

"feminist humour is making men look weak and inferior."

Oh, so you mean the same "humor" that the rest of Hollywood shits out these days. Great.

reply

If this new advertisement from Heineken to drum up hype for Bond is anything to go by, then it appears my silly joke is becoming true.

reply

Look, I don't see anything wrong with that advert. It's a clever little dig at celebrity. It's not mocking men or ridiculing James Bond for being masculine, it's poking fun at the spy genre and people's expectations of Daniel Craig. It's more about the martini/Heineken thing at the end than anything else. The cab driver isn't better than Bond, she's just a cabbie.

reply

The ads not bad IMO, dare I say quite amusing, but you know what they say about stepping stones. It's this fear that some of us have that the next Bond outing will diffuse the action and intense moments with poorly inserted moments of slapstick comedy.

reply

That would be a disappointment. Rami Malek had a quote that makes me a bit worried...

"I said, ‘This is a very climactic moment, are you sure we should interject humour here?’ And she said, ‘Well, he just can’t help himself, can he?’ She had a very good sense of who the character was."

reply

Yes, she was a good choice by the feminist woke crowd to put the bullet in Bond's head.

Ah well. It was a good run.

reply

Must be a lot of incels out there, considering how poorly these franchises do once they go woke.

reply

Hmm, aren't we all incels most of the time?

reply

I don't think too many will be crying over Bond though. At this point people are used to this happening.

reply

I'm going to take some guesses...

I assume this quote comes from an article? So, I bet that the quote is about image and advertising as much as actual content. They assume (correctly) there's buzz around the current era's interest in feminism (or Feminism) and the producers and article writers are aware of this.

So they say "feminist humour" because they know that will generate clicks and buzz.

They say that it's Waller-Bridge's "trademark feminist humour" because Phoebe Waller-Bridge is an up-and-coming hot property in the writing world. I hear her name more and more. And because she's a woman they say she's not just funny, she's "feminist funny". I've only seen Crashing, so I can't speak to Fleabag or Killing Eve, but my guess is that they, too, have a lot of comedy around sex and relationships...? If that's the case, I'd say that any person, particularly a woman, writing in today's climate about those topics is going to be able to be given that moniker - earned or not.

I liked Crashing a lot and I'd like to see Fleabag and other things by Waller-Bridge.

I am not in favour of feminising Bond. I think a female James Bond would defeat a big part of the point of the character and the themes of the series. I'm against it.

But I don't think she was brought on to do that - she keeps saying she wasn't, anyway.

reply

In the trailer the new black female 007 talks shit to Bond and he just dumbly takes it. No more Bond the ladies man, no more witty comebacks, at least when he's being talked down to by a woman.

I'm not optimistic, but we'll see.

reply

Yeah, that moment in the trailer was painful. The rest of it looked boss, but that moment was...I almost forgot about it.

reply

The action scenes did look cool, and most of them featured Bond, so it looks like they haven't turned him into a completely useless schmuck.

reply

There are a few things like that in the trailer that give me hope. I remain cautiously optimistic.

It was just one moment in the trailer. If that plotline is just "new agent shocks Bond with how soft he's getting and lights a fire under his butt," then I'm good with it. He's had the "you're getting old/soft" thing before, and a rival agent could be a good source of tension in the film. As long as Bond comes out on top and gets the last last word, all will be well.

reply

I'd rather just have less sex in Bond movies than feminist-friendly sex. The Living Daylights had almost no sexual content at all and I think it's the best Bond film ever. It's not a necessary element, and I have personally been grossed out by some of the sex scenes in the recent Craig films. They should just tone it down rather than bring in trademark feminists.

reply

Didn't he romance that French lady in that one?

reply

There are no French ladies in that one that I know of. The woman on the yacht at the beginning is dubbed, so I don't know which nationality she is.

reply

Maryam d'Abo is the actresses name. I thought she was French because of the name. Sounded French to me.

reply

Ummm he had sex with Kara 3 times and the chick from the boat in the teaser sequence.

reply

There was a scene in Fleabag that she and her sister attended a feminist seminar, in which the lecturer opened with a question like "which of you would give 5 years of your life to get a perfect figure?"

Both her and her sister raised their hands, but they found out they were the only ones, so they retracted their hands awkwardly.

Maybe that is one example of feminist humour.

reply

There's feminist humour now?!

reply

It it it's like, um, dry water.

reply

👾

reply

Feminist humor is "men suck" humor--not funny, but appreciated by a certain in-group that has psychological problems, including an inability to get along with men.

reply

"feminist humor"

a textbook example of an oxymoron

reply

I think that's where they make comments like "Birds of Prey failed because men thought their dicks would fall off if they saw a strong woman!"

They seem to think that's hilarious.
