Leopard 2 tank cost

Hey, I just read that they cost 11million dollars each for the basic model.
It sports a giant diesel engine. Ok, they are germans, but that seems a bit steep.
What the fuck costs so much?

Also, as a personal note, you cannot even drive it in a regular highway or they will fine you. It's a pretty useless vehicle if you ask me. I would love to use that cannon during rush hour, but that's about it.
I would never buy it for that price myself.

That's a bit less than the Abrams tank costs. Doesn't seem out of line to me.

Don't you think a big chunk of metal should cost less?
How overpriced are Ferrari?
How many can you buy for that price?

I think these arms manufacturer are total thieves, they operate in monopolies and with no competition or control. They deal with desperate suckers with tons of money (the states) and pump their prices accordingly.
Plus, they seem to not even try to have a better production line to reduce the costs.

It's not the cost of the metal, it's the cost of the entire program divided by how many tanks are actually made, plus profit for the company to even exist. In addition to the management, there are many thousands of people who build these devices who get paid a lot of money plus benefits. No one works for free unless they are enslaved.

And these modern tanks have very expensive turbine engines, support systems, and state of the art electronic weapons tracking systems.

In today's dollars, a WWII Sherman tank which was a far simpler and cruder device cost about $800K.
