Rate and rank his films

I think he is really underrated. My ratings and rankings of his films that I have seen:

The Wise Kids (2011) 9/10
Henry Gamble's Birthday Party (2015) 9/10
Princess Cyd (2017) 7/10

i had a violently negative reaction to henry gamble, thought it seemed to have a sneering, condescending attitude to its religious characters that really turned me against it. my review/rant is posted on letterboxd if you wanna look at it.

but then i watched the wise kids, & thought it was absolutely fantastic, so maybe i ought to give it another chance. perhaps i was just in a pissy mood the day i watched it.

i'd rate/rank as follows:

princess cyd 3.5/5 has a great monologue about acceptance and a very hot sex scene that completely got my motor running.
the wise kids 3.5/5
henry gamble's birthday party 0.5/5

I read your review. I had a very different response to the film. I didn’t feel that the religious people were caricatures at all. They felt real to me and I don’t think they were portrayed unfairly or negatively. I’m a Christian myself and I grew up in the church and these people seemed real to me.

it's not a world i know well myself, so i'll certainly defer to the opinion of someone who does know it.

& the fact that i liked his other films well enough makes me suspect i was just not in a receptive state the day i watched henry gamble.

since two of his films revolve around people of faith, i assume the director must have come out of that same world.
