Kinda sad she's received more screen time on Bored to Death than on SNL

Poor Jenny Slate. In one of the rarest instances, a brand new featured player on SNL is given a sketch where she gets to play the lead and she accidentally messes it up dropping the f-bomb and finds herself at the center of a mini-media firestorm.

It's hard enough for ANY WOMAN on SNL to land a leading sketch let alone a brand new featured player who has yet to prove herself! Oh sorry, let me correct myself. It's hard enough for any woman if your name is not Kristen Wiig to land a leading sketch!

Sadly, since that incident she has yet to receive any significant screen time at all on SNL. Her presence on the show is so lacking that her guest spot on Bored to Death now surpasses her work on SNL in terms of screen time and lines.

I really feel for new performers on SNL - I can smell the competitiveness in the air. The dog-eat-dog dynamic on the show is so obviously prominent. You've got the established leads all fighting for attention, which on a regular basis, they usually do not have a hard time getting. Wiig,Thompson,Sudekis, Armisen, Forte,Hader, Samberg and his digitals, they have undoubtedly left their mark (MacGruberrrrr!). AND then you've got the host hogging screen time who brings his or her own ideas to the show that may eat up a portion of the show. THEN theres the musical performances and weekend update and suddenly all 90 minutes are filled. How in the world are Abby Elliot, Jenny Slate and the ultra-gorgeous Nasim Pedrad supposed to get their foot in the door with all these obstacles in front of them? The answer - you gotta be good. and not just good, GREAT. You gotta be the next Will Ferrel or Adam Sanlder. But sometimes THIS doesn't even guarentee success - look at Michela Watkins who clearly busted her comedy chops way more than Abby Elliot last season.
