They should have stuck with calling him Speedy.

I shall call him Squishy and he shall be mine and he shall be my Squishy.

Why is it a Joke? Roy Harper starts off as Speedy in the comics in then he becomes Arsenal and Eventually Red Arrow

I too thought Thea was Speedy. She's even yelled at Oliver for still calling her that.
