Princess of Wales

Kate Middleton becomes the first Princess of Wales since Diana, Charles III announces his daughter-in-law's new title during his first address as King.

The title has not been held by anyone since the last Princess of Wales, making Kate the first Princess of Wales of the century.

She will be an excellent POW.

reply

She will be an excellent Queen one day too.

reply

She will that, and she's just simply beautiful.

reply

Now I have heard everytjing, LOL!

reply

She'll be dazzling in the role. And what WILL she wear to the funeral!

reply

At the Kings Coronation she’ll dazzle, but that is probably in 2023.

And Meghan's kids have the title of Prince and Princess now, I was never sure why they hadn't received those titles in the first place tbh.

reply

It takes time to arrange a coronation, Elizabeth was crowned about six months after her father's death. And Elizabeth didn't have to deal with the kind of political kerfuffles Charles is going to face over the next few months, all the anti-monarchists have been keeping as quiet as they can, saving all their ire up for Charles, because Elizabeth has been unassailable.

So yeah, 2023, because there's going to be politics re the budget and whether the monarchy needs to change, or continue at all. That's going to delay things, at best.

Because great-grandchildren of the monarch do not automatically get the title “prince” or “princess.” William and Kate’s children did because William is heir to the throne.

Now that Charles is king, the titles would be extended to all of his grandchildren. Except that Charles has stated for decades that the royal family needs to be streamlined, with fewer HRH titles. So everyone is waiting to learn how this will play out.

The palace has updated the line of succession on the royal family official website. The Sussex children are not listed as prince or princess.

Yep. I stand corrected. I believed an article far too early on this matter.

reply

Didn’t Charles reinstate their titles during his address?

reply

Latest reports seem to be that Harry & Meghan 'furious' over Archie & Lilibet titles.

reply

Really? I hadn't heard that. Seems odd that Harry and Megan are so touchy about this considering they quit their roles as working royals. Seems a bit pointless having the title if you've nothing to do with your family ay 🤷🏻‍♀️

reply

Honestly, the daily gossip industry that can't exist without the British Royal Family has turned me off anything related to them, but because of the Queen's passing and Charles' eminent inheritance of the throne it is a historical moment in time.

reply

She will fill the role magnificently, I have no doubt.

reply

I believe she will too, she's become a great asset to the Royal family. Regarding her as Princess of Wales will take bit of getting used to for those of us that remember Diana so well with that title.

reply

Fuck her and all the royals. I bet she's a lousy lay and a bad blow too.

"The title has not been held by anyone since the last Princess of Wales..."

Wait a minute, how was Camilla not the Princess of Wales? She was married to the Prince of Wales! Sure, she referred to herself differently, from whatever motives, but that doesn't mean the title wasn't actually hers.

People with multiple titles can choose which one they wish the press to use, like Prince Harry has himself referred to as the Duke of Sussex, but he's still a prince.

reply

I never thought about it but according to wikipedia: Camilla, Charles III’s second wife, was the Princess of Wales from 2005 to 2022 but did not use the title due to its popular association with his first wife, Lady Diana Spencer.

reply

Yeah, she had herself referred to as the Duchess or Countess of Whatever, a title she held in her own right. But she actually was the Princess of Wales.

Several years ago the Palace used to say that Camilla would continue to refer to herself as the Duchess or Countess of Whatever, after Charles too the throne, but then I think Charles said that wasn't going to happen. She was going to be Queen, and wear the Koohinoor in the Queen consort's crown. What the hell, the woman does like her jewelry big and gaudy, and you can't get gaudier than this!

reply

Oh for god's sake - people need to stop referring to her as Kate Middleton.

reply

She hasn’t been Kate Middleton for almost 13 years. When she married William in 2011 she became the Duchess of Cambridge and she has been the Princess of Wales since late 2022.
