reply

He plays Elvis in the new movie.

reply

i know. i don't know his work.

reply

Never heard of him either until the Elvis film. I'm a fan now though! He was amazing in the movie!

reply

I became aware of him when I first saw Once Upon A Time In Hollywood (one of my favourite movies). I watched ELVIS and thought Austin’s performance was PHENOMENAL! I hope he wins an Oscar!

reply

I have seen Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. He played Tex Watson I do believe.

reply

Yes!🙂

YOUR POST INSPIRED ME TO DISCOVER SOMETHING...I KNOW THIS DUDE FROM WAY BACK...HE WAS ON THE LONE SEASON OF ZOEY 101 FOR NICKELODEAN...CANCELLED AFTER THAT ONE SEASON WHEN 14 YEAR OLD STAR JAMIE LYNN SPEARS GOT PREGNANT...INTERESTING.

reply

Why tf did you ever watch Zoey 101?

reply

MY DAUGHTER AND I HAVE WATCHED ALL THE DISNEY CHANNEL AND NICKELODEAN SHOWS....LIZZIE MAGUIRE IS OUR FAVORITE.

reply

Don't drag your daughter into this. You saw it by yourself.

He's been acting a while in small roles. The only movie I saw him in was the High School Musial spin off "Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure.' He was the love interest there. I didn't think too much about him as I'm a little on the older side (10 year difference) but he was fine in what the movie was. I'm glad to see him making his way up. It's fun to see them progress through the years. Sebastian Stan was another one I enjoyed watching. And Butler's portrayal of Elvis was absolutely electrifying. I actually can't believe it's the same kid. I hope he continues to get good parts and I hope he gets an Oscar nod, if not win, for this role.

reply

That was HIM in the Sharpay movie? I would never have realized that, he looks so different.

reply

RIGHT!? the skinny blonde boys aren't my thing and I hadn't seen him in anything prior to watching him in Elvis so when I saw the interviews after and realized who he was I was actually shocked. I couldn't believe it was the same guy. And, yea, he would have been 29 or so when filming Elvis; so not a kid, but at the same time I couldn't believe that that little Disney kid pulled off the performance he did in Elvis. Certain mannerisms, not just Elvis, but mature controlled things that wouldn't' expect such a younger actor to know. It was just a treat to see. I don't know if I am fan enough to go back and watch some of his other work (if I have the time I will) but I do look forward to what he has to do in the future because he's got a LOT of potential.

I looked up his IMDb profile. He was in a ton of Disney channel and Nickelodeon stuff. Zoey 101, he appeared in an episode on iCarly, Wizards of Waverly Place, and Hannah Montana was one of his earliest roles. Switched at Birth, Arrow, The Shanara Chronicles, The Dead Don't Die. Honestly I'm glad they picked an unknown name instead of someone with star power. I love it when new people are introduced to the scene. Or people who have acted for a long time and get a chance to shine on the big screen. It's refreshing to see new faces.

We were impressed that he was only in his late twenties (now early thirties) playing the role. He pulls off an older and younger look very well. He would've only been in his early twenties in his early roles. Now I want to go back and watch some of his older stuff just to see the way he's grown as an actor

reply

yep, same. I was a little aged out of all those shows. I've watched some because I use to work at the Disney store so I liked to have an idea of what the kids were watching so I was more High School Musical and Hannah Montana. I had a young cousin so would watch some things with her but never watched the Nick stuff. the only think I would have seen him in that was more my speed would have been Arrow but I was kinda done with the DC TV shows after Smallville and since Arrow wasn't a spin off of Smallville I didn't pay much attention to it.

I'm the same way as you. I'm glad they gave the role to an unknown and we could just watch the movie and see him as Elvis. As amazing as Tom Hanks is as the Colonel, I still think 'Tom Hanks'. Austin disappears as Elvis. And one thing I don't see talked about as much in the Elvis conversations I have been in is how WELL these two played off each other. You had the industry star celebrity who has had 40+ years of experience and the relatively unknown actor playing against each other. A weak Elvis would have caused Tom Hanks to completely overpower this film. So it amazes me how Austin was able to bring out the energy and confidence make sure the focus stayed on him. those scenes where Elvis is finally pushing back at Parker are beautiful the way the two play off each other. and that's a part of Austin's talent. I was so impressed and he really deserves this chance after all the work he put in.

I plan on seeing some older stuff just to see how he's progressed. I've seen a couple of clips posted on Tik Tok and things and it's so funny because he's so different. He had a very 'beach boy' type casting going on with the longer bleachy blonde hair and things like that. I do wanna see Once Upon a Time in Hollywood so that might be the next thing I watch.

Tom Hanks was cool in the 80s and 90s, but now seeing him in nearly everything is annoying. This is like the 1,000th time he's played a real life character. I really wish they had picked someone else to play him. Would've been even more awesome to have two lesser known actors play off each other, or an established actor that has a face I don't see nearly everywhere and watch him completely disappear in the role.

I've seen some old clips on the internet of Austin Butler as well, and I must say I agree with you.

He hasn't been in a lot of things. Well apparently he's been in quite a few minor TV roles over the years and some other big films. Just nothing as major as now. I didn't know who he was either, but he very well could be the next big star. I think he's already signed up for some new movie releases
