Who's complaining about nepotism?

Who are these people that go on message boards of actors/actresses like Alden, Rooney Mara, Dakota Johnson, etc. and complain about them being where they are because of connections?

Is it mostly aspiring actors/actresses who are resentful that they don't have the same privileges?

reply

I still don't understand the charge of nepotism with Alden. No one in his family is in the business.

reply

Nepotism involves friends as well, not just family. He definitely benefited by being in close proximity to Steven Spielberg, but I don't feel any resentment towards him for it. I'm just curious who these people are that seem to resent it so intensely.

are you stupid or an idiot? spielberg "discovered" him in a synagogue....he's jewish....enough said.

reply

i think the issue is people are genuinely, and rightfully, shocked that he has been cast as a young Han Solo, so maybe they are grasping at straws.

reply

He is Beautiful.
It's stinky actors that should just ACT, keep their mouths closed if they have nothing smart or decent to say.
Brad Pitt is an amazing actor and GREAT HUMAN BEING who never pretends to be something else...and that's why EVERYONE LOVES HIM.

reply

Yeah, ‘cause actors never pretend to be anything.

Brilliant. You’ve let your soaking panties get in the way of what passes for your brain.

Every single person in the entertainment industry has connections that opened doors for them. You don't just knock on the door of a studio-head and get hired.

reply

True, but most actors aren't fortunate enough to establish a connection with someone like Steven Spielberg at a friend's party before they ever land their first role. They have to scratch and claw from the bottom by auditioning for bit parts here and there (mostly in TV), working their way up and establishing connections along the way based on word-of-mouth or buzz generated by performances.

Two examples:

Hilary Swank - moved out to Los Angeles at the age of 15 and lived out of a car with her mother. Her mom scheduled a lot of her auditions with the Yellow Pages at pay phones.

Taraji P. Henson - moved to Los Angeles to escape an abusive ex as a 24-year-old single mother with $700 in her pocket.

These are the kinds of actors that may look at a rich Jewish kid with rich Jewish friends with Hollywood mogul connections from their career's beginning and possibly get a little envious or resentful.

Well put. The longer I look at the movie business in particular, the more I see the Jewish bias in it. It’s ironic: Jews, the victims of the worst persecution imaginable, have every reason and right to abhor discrimination and favoritism. Yet many Jews are selective in their abhorrence. I once worked at a Jewish family-owned business where they told me “we love to pick your brain” (I am Gentile), but where I also heard the patriarch tell his son that “Jews are the smartest people in the world.” I left soon thereafter.

Do not underestimate the power of the Diaspora.
