This is the song equivalent of that one friend in high school who wrote a "new year, new me." post that amounted to a different haircut and an urge to throw a middle finger up when taking pictures. It's just all a bit lame and boring. It's pretty terrible. 'Blank Space' from her last album also used the public perception of her as its concept, and did it way better. I understand she holds a lot of power, but no one in her circle thought to say "Guys, this is a piece of shit."?
