Dev Patel is classed in the UK as British Asian. He is a British citizen with Indian heritage through both his parents (they emigrated to England).

Patel is a common Gujarati surname.

Obviously. I cannot really imagine him to look anything else other than the stereotypical 'Indian'. He is of Gujarati Ethnicity & Born in London.
