Untalented actor with little range

his goofy character in SKins utilized his hammy style of acting. It's tough for any actor to screw up a Danny Boyle movie. So he was fine in Slumdog. But he is the weakest of all the actors in Slumdog. Yet, this guy has gotten the more high profile roles since then compared to the rest of the cast.
His accent in Marigold was not realistic. It came across more of a guy trying to sound middle eastern than indian.

Actually Pinto aint much better, but it looks like she won't be getting any major roles anymore.

Pinto has fared better because she is much more beautiful and fits more into the Hollywood type, she's more leading lady material and I can see a character played by Chris Evans or Henry Cavill falling for her. I'm actually surprised that Dev's career has managed to survive even though most of his parts are ether ethnic or supporting (in fact, he got the role in Slumdog because they needed an Indian guy and that fit with the story). Not only he is ethnic but he is not what you call attractive. He should consider himself lucky with the way things have gone. I doubt he's gonna get any leading roles in serious films.

Yeah, I'm guessing you're not a woman. Dev is adorable.

reply

Lol exactly! Just watch him in the wedding dance scene I say.. He's hot in that!
'Good looking' comes in many forms. And I can definitely see him expanding his acting chops in years to come.

I recently saw Marigold part 2 and I felt like he was overacting, but I have admit he has a likability factor.

reply

Never saw skins, thankfully but he's extremely talented and versatile

reply

Exactly!
I saw him at the Lion movie premiƩre in NYC and he is dreamy...
Tall, handsome, always with a beautiful smile on his face. Just lovely.

Indeed, he should count himself lucky. Its basically because he is he go-to guy when producers want to cast a young Indian dude that will appeal to an international market (outside of Bollywood). He has no one to compete with. How many other young Indian guys famous in Hollywood can you name?

Same goes to Katie Leung of Harry Potter. You need a young British Chinese girl for One Child or Jackie Chan's The Foreigner? Get Katie, she's the go-to young British Chinese girl. Studios will always try to cast known names as much as possible for certain roles to pull in audiences and to assure themselves they have an experienced professional.

Dev didnt even have any professional acting experience before Skins. He even said on day 1 of shooting he didnt know what he was doing. He was cast after 2 auditions and then Boyle's daughter recommended him to her dad for Slumdog Millionaire and then M Night Shyamalan (a fellow Indian obviously helping a brother out) cast him in Last Airbender.

I haven't been a fan in the past, but I just saw Lion and he really blew me away in that.
