box office poison

keeps getting roles and a big paycheck, how does that work?

reply

just like how some people keep gambling knowing how the house always wins, the studios think a movie might be a hit

I actually read why her career tanked so quickly after X-men and the Hunger Games movies.

She started getting all political (just like the other idiots in Hollywood), and said a lot of stuff that was offensive towards people on the right side of the political spectrum, and in effect, alienating a large portion of her audience. Not surprisingly, the silent majority stepped in and not only ignored her next few films (which weren't that good to start with, not unless you're a fan of "Joy" and "American Hustle"), but bombarded any acting parts she did with bad reviews. That's one reason we heard so little of her recent films, such as "Passengers."

Instead of admitting she was wrong, she pretended that she was going on a 2-year hiatus from acting (which is just another way of saying, "My career is dying and I'm gonna run away from it while the going is still good,") and was quoted as going to get politically active to "Fix Our Democracy." How an idiot like her is gonna do that, I have no clue. A pity. She had a promising career ahead of her, and she had to sacrifice it on the altar of the Democrap party.

I'm not convinced that's the reason. While libs circle the wagons and boycott anything and everything that offends them (and that's a lot), cons tend to not give a sh#t and pretty much just worry about their own day to day issues.

Maybe her career is on a downward trajectory because, at the end of the day, she's just not that marketable anymore. I don't see any extraordinary talent in her. An average actress at best IMO.

reply

Agreed, she is just average. I think over-exposure is also a problem. Her idea to take a break might not be a bad one.

reply

And she can keep taking a break forever, as far as I'm concerned.

reply

Not really

reply

Things have changed on the conservative side.

reply

How so?

reply

She is just average in every way. Once the honeymoon period and the novelty of her being "down to earth" or whatever passed people moved on. She lacks the talent to excel as an actress long term and is neither very hot nor interesting as a personality to keep people interested in her.

She just lacks what is commonly referred to as the "IT" factor.

reply

i agree

reply

She's not that average. She has a gift for comedic facial expressions which has been suspiciously untapped.

reply

That's a great skill for slapstick comedic work... but what slapstick comedy has Jennifer Lawrence done recently?

Like you said, it's an untapped skill, which defers back to the other poster's point that her current body of work is average.

reply

It seems like she's being pressured into doing Oscar-bait dramas. I don't see why she can't have it both ways by doing an Oscar-worthy comedy.

It's too bad because she should do some face-driven comedy before she feels the urge to ruin her face with plastic surgery.

reply

She has the accolades and a huge following on social media which allows advertisers to gauge how many tickets can be purchased.
