and?

reply

its embarrasing

reply

It's not like she didn't do anything with her life... Many actors and even singers have dropped out of school to achieve what they want to do with their lives and for her it worked out.

reply

some humility might be in order

reply

I think dropping out to do porn would be embarrassing, or picking up shit for a living.

reply

You think she can add 1/4 + 1/8 ???

You think she can write an essay ??

You think she knows the capital of Finland ??

The number of continents ??

World's biggest country in land mass ??

would love to have a conversation with her.

reply

She has more money than you.

reply

I am smarter

reply

Not unless you can prove your credentials. Which college did you graduate from?

reply

University of Toronto 1985. Bachelor of Commerce
Certified General Accountant Designation 1996

What's yours ???

reply

University of Alberta 2012, Masters of Library Information Science with a 3.97 GPA and an degree in film studies from the University of Calgary.

reply

I guess it wasn't easy getting a job with a BA in film studies ?? Your Masters degree is impressive.

reply

And I won the lottery, can we get back on topic please?

reply

I took the degree for fun, because in order to get to the masters you have to use the degree as a stepping stone. I actually did get a lot of free lance work while I was studying film, things like production assistant, set dressing, props, stuff like that. Learned a lot, there was some tough courses in there too. But Library Science was always my passion. Although I did love film studies, I never really intended to pursue it as a career, more something I wanted to do right out of high school that seemed fun.

Thank you for your compliment though.

Agreed. Academics are not for everyone. A degree or a piece of paper doesn't really mean anything in the grand scheme of things.

reply

I second this as well, and this is coming from someone who was an honor student since Jr. High.

I honestly wish we'd stop pushing college and academia on everyone and maybe offer options like trade schools or apprenticeships. Not everyone can learn from traditional means of schooling.

reply

Reading novels and studying sociology and political science usually means you are working at McDonalds.

Every year I volunteer in a program where I complete tax returns for seniors and low income families and individuals, free of charge. I have been doing this for 20 years.

Accounting is more than number crunching. The Accounting profession is multi-faceted and many accountants are business people, educators, consultants, regulators, advocates and tax professionals.

[deleted]

Didn't know that being an accountant can make you so full of yourself. Congratulations, you proved that you are a fuckwad.

reply

I just agreed with you on another thread. Accountants run the world, you just don't know it,

reply

Librarians run the world

People with bachelor's degrees can't even name that shit off the top of their head. How does any of that contribute to the value of your day to day life? Quentin Tarantino, Johnny Depp, Ryan Gosling among others also dropped out of high school. Did they suffer any?

Plus, look at the current state of formal education. We have professors trying to convince students that there's 80 fucking genders. Having a bachelor's degree in today's climate means jack shit anymore. You're actually more educated sitting at home and watching youtube all day than you would be going into debt in college.

and suggests there isn't very much mental horsepower between her ears.

reply

and now she will fix our democracy

reply

LOL

I think the interesting thing is how MANY actors and actresses (historically) did not go to, or finish, college, and in some cases indeed did not complete high school. Screenwriter William Goldman once listed a group of actors from his era(60s/70s) and found each had had "a year of college, or less." Streisand, Dustin Hoffman, Robert Redford, Steve McQueen. I think Paul Newman had a college degree.

J-Law sums it up: they wanted to be actors and actresses, and you can do that pretty early in your life with no degree necessary. Look at how many of our current stars started as child actors, or child stars. Leo DiCaprio, for one. Justin Timberlake for another. Brad Pitt, I think. J-Law played a teenage daughter on a sitcom.

The risk: for every multi-million star like J-Law who skipped school and became a big star, there are a thousand failed actors who skipped school and didn't make it. Oh, well, they can go later. Or wait tables. Or work in porn.

All of this is starting to show up more and more in the "real world" as many young people are choosing to opt out of college(at least in the degrees that don't guarantee jobs) and go straight into the non-degree job market(sales, vocational work, construction, upper level restaurant service, etc.)
